Strathfield local Hyun Mi has considerably improved her English communication skills, drastically boosted her confidence and successfully gained sustainable employment as a result of the innovative Sound Path Language and Literacy Program offered by Jobfind Centres Australia.
When Hyun Mi came to Jobfind, she was fairly competent with written English – but struggled when it came to verbal communication. Having previously worked in a retail store frequented mostly by Korean-speaking customers, Hyun Mi’s consultant set about working towards strengthening Hyun Mi’s spoken English skills – for the purposes of both gaining employment and ongoing communication within the workplace.
Utilising Jobfind’s revolutionary employment-focused, language and literacy program, Sound Path, which works towards mastery of the forty-five phonetic sounds and twenty-two language rules used in English, Hyun Mi was able to continually practise and dramatically improve her cold-calling and interview skills.
“At the end of the three-week program, job seekers construct their own thirty-second commercial to “sell” themselves to employers before taking part in a mock interview”, said Cecile Arif, Manager of Jobfind Centre Strathfield. “To see, from this exercise, how far Hyun Mi had come since she started the course was just phenomenal.”
Only one week after graduating from the Sound Path Program, Hyun Mi successfully interviewed and gained employment in a packing position with online retailer, OO.com in Rosebery. She is reportedly loving her new role and performing well.
Meanwhile in Auburn NSW, nine job seekers (pictured) have recently graduated from the Sound Path Program with the language and literacy skills they need to find meaningful and sustainable employment.
With video recordings of their progress throughout the three-week program, the job seekers themselves were astounded at how far they had come after completing the program’s final task – the thirty-second commercial.
