Patrick and fellow job seekers from Cairns have been offered employment on the Southern Access Corridor Project, after completing their Indigenous Employment Project (IEP) with the development initiative.
Jobfind was asked to screen suitable candidates for the construction program, with Patrick of the Yidinji Nation one of the candidates selected for the IEP.
However things got off to a rocky start, when Patrick had come in late to class on two consecutive days.
On the second day, Patrick was asked to reflect on whether he deserved a place in the program.
He immediately took the discussion on board and of his own accord addressed the class of sixteen to apologise for his lack of dedication.
He vowed that this would not happen again, as he wanted to be able to financially support his new family.
Patrick never missed a day from that time forward, enthusiastically coming to class, taking on all his responsibilities and going on to become the most respected employee of the program.
He was even given additional duties and has since been promoted to his supervisor’s electrical spotter – a position not generally given to a trainee.
Patrick and his fellow course mates worked hard to make the Southern Access Corridor Project a success and are now all being offered employment on the project by BMD Group and Albem Operations.
