Jobfind Hosts Queensland CDEP Providers Workshop

22 June 2011 – Jobfind Centres Australia is hosting the first state-based employment services workshop focused entirely on Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) in Cairns this week.

“Inspiration Through Communication” is the theme of the inaugural Queensland CDEP Providers Workshop, to be held over 22 and 23 June at The Sebel Hotel in Cairns.

Hosted by Jobfind Centres Australia and funded by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA), the event is the first state-based employment services workshop focussed entirely on the Government’s Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP).

The workshop will cover topics such as overcoming cultural differences with job seekers, developing more effective communication and engagement techniques, improving work readiness, job seeker support and mentoring, as well as showcasing new provider initiatives and strategies.

The event will also provide networking and discussion opportunities for a number of local and regional employment service partners who will be attending, including a number of other Job Services Australia (JSA) providers who work closely with CDEP providers, as well as relevant Government agencies.

Jobfind promises that the workshop will present positive, inspirational and culturally appropriate content across a number of interactive and demonstrative sessions. One such session covers Jobfind’s Budda-Jitja online and mentored pre-employment training programs, developed specifically for Indigenous job seekers by Jobfind’s Indigenous team. Designed to improve work and life skills such as communication, language, literacy and numeracy (among others), the courses have been successfully used to help thousands of Indigenous job seekers gain meaningful and sustainable employment.
