18 August 2010 – Jobfind Centres Australia has launched a community bus service to give people in outlying communities the opportunity to regularly travel to Jabiru to boost their training and employment prospects.

The Jobfind Bus was officially launched on 29 July 2010 at the Jabiru local swimming pool. Funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), through Job Services Australia provider Jobfind, the bus will travel between Jabiru and surrounding outstations Kapalga, Mamukala, Mudginbardi, Patonga and Manaburduma on a regular basis. Many people living outside Jabiru have limited access to training and employment opportunities and the Jobfind bus will help bridge this gap.

The launch was attended by Senator Trish Crossin, Justin O’Brien – Executive Officer of Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation, DEEWR representatives, Jobfind CEO Con Kittos and Jobfind staff as well as members of the Jabiru community; all of whom commended the initiative.

Senator Trish Crossin commented that Jabiru is the only place in the Northern Territory to begin a remote bus service. She said she would take the idea back to Canberra to discuss ways for more remote communities in NT to have regular transport systems.

Jobfind CEO Con Kittos traveled from Sydney to be part of the launch, proud to be involved in such a significant event. “By launching this bus we are not only helping people find and engage in training and employment, but each community will now be able to access basic, everyday services available in the town of Jabiru” Mr Kittos said.

The initiative is supported by Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation, who congratulated Jobfind for facilitating enhanced opportunities for local Aboriginal people.

The Jobfind Bus currently operates Tuesday to Thursday each week and people can contact Jobfind on 8938 3400 to book their seat. Jobfind hopes to extend the service to other communities by reaching Cahill's Crossing (East Alligator River) in the near future and use the bus for community events.
