Jobfind’s Contribution Helps to Change the Face of Men’s Health

1 December 2011 – Staff from Jobfind Centres Australia have raised over $13,500 this year for charity event ‘Movember’, providing further evidence of the company's commitment to improving the wellbeing of the greater community.

Jobfind staff have once again put their generous support behind Movember, a month-long event that challenges men to grow a moustache to raise awareness and funds for men’s health charities such as the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue – the national depression initiative.

As a provider of the Government’s Job Services Australia (JSA), supporting those in need is nothing new for the team at Jobfind. On a daily basis, Jobfind staff work to help some of the most disadvantaged people in Australia to gain vital life skills and find meaningful and sustainable employment. So it’s only natural that such a caring bunch of people would wholeheartedly get behind a cause as worthy as Movember.

Under the team name “Jobfind Mo-Buddas and Mo-Jitjas” (meaning Mo-Brothers and Sisters, influenced by Jobfind's work in Australia's Indigenous communities), the men and women of Jobfind have raised over $13,500 this year - contributing to an expected $27 million raised by Movember throughout Australia.

A number of creative events were held by the team to engage the community and gain their support. Jobfind's highest fundraiser for the second year in a row, Dean Riggins from Jobfind Toronto (NSW), entertained commuters each morning at Fassifern Railway Station. Together with Fassifern’s Station Master, Neena, the duo donned a number of Movember inspired costumes to drum up support and bring a smile to the face of early morning commuters. The “Dean and Neena” show, as it became known around town, culminated in a breakfast barbecue with 12kg of bacon, 16 cartons of eggs and two litres of sauce going into making 180 bacon and egg rolls –attracting over $1,500 in donations.

The team at Jobfind’s Palmerston, Northern Territory Centre were keen to show that even their all-female office wouldn’t stop them from getting into the spirit of “moustache season”. They held two barbecues outside the local Officeworks, raising over $1000. And, at Jobfind Wallsend, the team invited local employers and community partners over for a brekkie roll and a cuppa, adding $130 to the company’s total.

“The generosity and support shown by the Jobfind team this year has been overwhelming”, said Natalie Turmine, team captain and Executive General Manager of Jobfind Centres Australia. “We’re in our fourth year now of supporting Movember and so far we’ve contributed almost $60,000 to men’s health charities. I’m extremely proud of everyone who has gotten involved.”
