27 June 2011 – During the recent Request For Tender process for the East Arnhem region of the Northern Territory, the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) awarded Jobfind Centres Australia with a contract to deliver Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) to residents of Groote Eylandt from 1 July 2011.
The largest island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Groote Eylandt is situated 50 km from the eastern coast of Arnhem Land and is home to the Anindilyakwa people.
From 1 July 2011, Jobfind CDEP will begin servicing three communities on the island, including Angurugu on the East coast, Umbakumba on the West coast and Milyakburra - a smaller satellite island between Groote Eylandt and the Northern Territory mainland.
“This is yet again another confirmation of FaHCSIA’s confidence in Jobfind’s ability to consistently deliver quality employment and training solutions to Indigenous Australians in some of the most remote parts of Australia”, said Simon Rodgers, Jobfind’s General Manager of CDEP programs.
“Jobfind has been delivering CDEP since 2006, and Groote Eylandt now joins our other CDEP operations in Hope Vale, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw in Queensland and Wadeye in the Northern Territory, where every day we help up to 1000 CDEP participants move towards their future employment goals.”
