12 July 2011 – The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) has awarded Jobfind Centres Australia with a contract to deliver Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) to residents of Coen, Queensland.
The remote inland town of Coen in the Cape York Peninsula of Far North Queensland has become the latest addition to Jobfind’s CDEP operations – delivering a range of programs that help to build the economies of remote Indigenous communities while simultaneously improving the employment prospects of community members.
Home to 300 people, of which around 75 per cent are Indigenous Australians, Coen is already well acquainted with the Jobfind team – with Jobfind’s outreach operations offering employment assistance to the community on a monthly basis over the past 5 years, firstly under Remote Bundled employment services arrangements and more recently under Job Services Australia (JSA) and Disability Employment Services (DES) contracts.
On 1 July 2011, Jobfind began full time operations in Coen after being awarded a CDEP contract by FaHCSIA during the recent CDEP limited tender process.
“We’re very excited to be able to integrate our CDEP and JSA operations to provide a one-stop shop for employment and training services to the people of Coen”, said Simon Rodgers, General Manager of Jobfind’s CDEP.
“Coen now joins Jobfind’s other CDEP operations in Hope Vale, Lockhart River and Pormpuraaw in Queensland and Wadeye and Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory – where we’re using our six year experience in delivering CDEP to help improve the lives of up to 1000 members of remote communities around Australia.”
Under Jobfind’s JSA contract, Jobfind also operates in 128 locations around Australia and has helped more than 400,000 people into employment since 1998.
