Jobfind’s Success Stories

As mentioned, we’ve found jobs for hundreds of thousands of people over the years. The following are just a few stories that stick out in our mind and really prove that Anything Is Possible.

Jacob’s Joy

One afternoon Jacob, a 16 year old, came into our Jobfind office in Wyong for his initial appointment. During a chat he revealed his troubled past, having been in the care of DOCs since a young age.

Despite this, Jacob expressed a desire to make something of himself, perhaps by beginning an apprenticeship so he would not have the same life as his parents. His Jobfind Consultant set him up on LearnNow, Jobfind’s exclusive online learning program, to assist him with his confidence and some workplace skills, including hospitality.

Armed with newfound confidence (plus new interview clothing and footwear purchased by Jobfind) Jacob was looking and feeling ready to take on the world. Jobfind arranged an interview for an assistant’s role at a local bakery where Jacob secured a paid work trial. Jacob was one of the most committed workers they had ever seen. Every morning he rose at 2am and rode his bike to the bakery! As happens sometimes, the position did not become permanent. This didn’t deter Jacob and he was still motivated and keen to succeed.

A short time later, Jobfind referred him to a Kitchen Hand interview and he was employed on the spot. The employer commented that he was the most willing and enthusiastic young man he had ever met. During just his third shift, Jacob was congratulated by the Head Chef on his commitment, attitude, willingness to learn and his ability to take direction when necessary. The Chef then offered him a commencement as the kitchen’s First Year Apprentice on the completion of his current roster.

A year has passed since Jacob came to see us and he has rapidly become a responsible adult – living alone and taking care of all his own cooking and cleaning. When Jobfind contacted him to congratulate him on his achievements he quickly turned around and said “No, thank you for changing my life and ensuring I was not like them. You gave me a go when no one else would”.

Marik’s Miracle

Marik had been unemployed for over a year and had little confidence or motivation to work. He felt he was too old and wanted to be left alone.

Jobfind began to build a relationship with Marik, finding out that much of his negative attitude came from knockbacks when he was cold-calling local businesses. He was repeatedly told there were no jobs for him as he was too old. His limited English skills also posed issues for many employers.

We decided to rework Marik’s resume, highlighting his skills, and explained to him some of the wage subsidies that were available for employers hiring mature workers, which made him a more attractive candidate. His very-involved Jobfind Consultant also explained some of the benefits of working, including superannuation.

Jobfind then conducted reverse marketing for the client to a local spare parts centre. The employer agreed to an unpaid work trial as his Consultant realised this would help ‘sell’ Marik, rather than have him be rejected again because of his age. Following the trial, the employer was still a little unsure, so we decided to explain the wage subsidies available and how this would give the employer time to train and develop the candidate.

The employer, now seeing the many advantages, agreed and offered Marik part-time employment for 15 hours a week. Jobfind encouraged Marik to accept the position, which he was very happy to do. He’s now enjoying working again and has the confidence and cash to start enjoying extra activities in his free time.

Sally’s Smile

Sally was a 22 year old client who lived a bohemian-type lifestyle. When she met with our Consultants she expressed her confusion regarding her career options and, after a lengthy discussion, our Consultant worked with her to identify positions in the hospitality industry she could aim towards.

Sally was reverse marketed to Accor for a reception position at a local hotel. The employer was very keen to meet her but Sally was quite nervous and not sure how to present herself as she usually dresses in an eclectic style. Her Jobfind Consultant accessed the EPF (Employment Pathway Fund) to provide her with suitable clothes for the interview, as well as offering her some tips on how best to do her hair and makeup. At our Centre, Sally was also able to access the hotel's website to learn more about their history and locations.

After she ‘studied up’ a bit about the hotel, her Consultant also conducted a mock interview to prepare her for some of the questions she would be asked.

With all her preparation, Sally headed into the interview with confidence and was offered the position. A few weeks later we contacted Sally and she told us that she “loves” her new job and that the employer was extremely impressed with her performance. Sally has been in the hospitality industry for some time now and is very satisfied with her chosen career path.
