Not necessarily....

Money and time is an issue for most employers. They will jump at the chance to save themselves both. So,

• Take the Plunge! The first contact is always the hardest....
• Most companies have busy and quiet times...Aim to visit the company at their quiet time when they can spare you a minute and hear what you have to offer.
• Some employers will tell you that they have nothing available and will keep your resume on file. Make sure you are on top of the pile by continually following up with your contact and dropping off your up-to-date resume.
• If you are able to speak directly to the manager, respect the Receptionist - they are usually the "Gate Keeper", so make sure you use them as a potential contact - be ultra nice and take the opportunity to find out useful information.
• Remember everyone has their good and bad days, so do employers! Continue to be polite and grateful for the employers time.
• Make it fun! Go with a friend that is also looking for work, make a competition out of it. Keep each other's spirits high and make sure your last stop is at a coffee shop - REWARD yourselves for your hard efforts!

Obviously not every place you try will have a job available, however, that does not mean your call should be a waste of time....
