Sydney January 19, 2004- In a competitive job market, your behaviour after an interview can be a crucial factor in beating other candidates to land the job you want, a leading recruitment services provider says. "Successful candidates are alert to the fact that an interview doesn't finish after the final handshake, and instead, take the initiative to find more opportunities to convince employers that they're 'the one'", says chief executive officer of Jobfind Centres, Mr Con Kittos . "Following up demonstrates high levels of enthusiasm as well as professionalism and if the interviewer cannot decide between you and another candidate, the post interview follow up will help increase the odds for success", said Mr Kittos. The first rule of post interview behaviour is to be patient. Hiring processes aren't necessarily top of mind at all times and companies are cautious in making hiring decisions knowing how expensive mistakes can be. So remember, no news is not bad news. "Another thing you should also try to do is contact your references after the interview to tell them about the job you are going for, the company the position is with and your major responsibilities in the new role. Giving them this information will help your referees focus their answers to suit your needs even more", said Mr Kittos. To enhance your chances of being noticed during this long and frustrating period, Jobfind Centres has put together a list of things you should do and actions to avoid.
